The CHMS Spartan Band is now co-directed by Sabrina Steck and Hector Lara. Sabrina is a 202 graduate from Illinois Wesleyan University and started her first year here at Chicago Heights Middle School. she began as one of the general music teachers and choir director. Hector is a 2020 graduate from Northern Illinois University.  He returned home to the Chicago Heights area and began his journey at CHMS in the spring of 2021. Both are overjoyed to run the music department together!

After a long year of virtual learning and little music, students were ready to bring back the band!  For the 2021-2022 school year, CHMS has two bands: one beginning band and one returning member band. The students have been working diligently to learn their instruments. Our first public performance will be with the returning band at the CHMS Veterans' Day ceremonies on Thursday, November 11, 2021. Two performances are schedules: 9:45 and 12:30. We have been practicing the U.S. Forces songs to honor each branch of our military as the ceremony comes to a close. 

Small groups of musicians from both bands will be playing at the Chicago Heights Public Library as they host their Winter Wonderland event. This will take place on Monday, December 13, 2021, from 5:30-7:00 PM.

And to end out a great first half of the year, the Spartan Bands will host their first holiday concert on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at 6:00 PM. Join us in the Cafetorium for "Holidays in the Heights."
