Chicago Heights School District 170 has announced that its schools will close for spring break from March 30 to April 3, 2020.
The break replaces the originally scheduled spring break that was to run from April 10 - April 17.
Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the district's schools have been closed since March 17, and will remain closed pending Illinois state government guidelines.
Superintendent Thomas J. Amadio stated that CHSD170 would distribute a week of pre-prepared breakfasts and lunches to each of its schools on Friday, March 27, 2020. The meals will be available for pick-up between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
"The distribution of the food continues our district's pledge to serve nutritious meals to our students as part of the school experience,” he said.
In reiterating the district's commitment to its service communities, Amadio asked students and their families to continue to focus on staying safe while adhering to established state guidelines to minimize the risk of the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
"As you will strive to keep your families safe, our district will pledge to continue to provide a sound educational program for all of our students through the E-Learning protocols created explicitly for situations such as this one," he said. "Due to the constantly evolving, rapidly-changing nature of the situation, we will continue to communicate with you in a timely and transparent manner," Amadio concluded.
