The Girls Softball Team of Chicago Heights School District 170 recently closed out a record-setting season with an 18-6 victory over Columbia Central School.
The squad, coached by Jenna Amazzalorso, finished the regular season with a record of five wins against three losses, notching the first-ever winning record for a School District 170 softball squad.
"I am so exceptionally proud of our girls and of the outstanding effort that they put forth this season," Amazzalorso said. "My coaches (Diane Matise and Ron Newquist) and I knew coming into this year that these girls would be special, and we were right."
"Our team's achievement in bettering the .500 mark for a season for the first time in school history is emotional for me because I knew, from the earliest practices, that the girls understood the importance of a commitment to excellence that was needed to achieve our desired goal."
"That commitment never wavered during practice or games, and the girls took pride in their abilities, and pride in being outstanding representatives of our school district," Amazzalorso concluded.
CHSD170 Athletic Director Joe Barker reiterated the coach's words of praise for the team.
"The dedication that has been shown by the Lady Spartans softball team and the commitment of the outstanding coaches are examples of the qualities that permeate our district's athletic programs and bode well for systemic success in future athletic endeavors," Barker said.
